We all want to look and feel our best. It’s one of the biggest driving forces behind all our diligent exercise and healthy diet routines. But sometimes, despite our best efforts, little bits of nagging, stubborn fat or sagging skin can continue to cling to our bodies, often in the most unwanted places. Ridding your body of large areas of excess fat may require more invasive remedies, such as liposuction. However, if your goal is simply to tighten up and transform small areas of stubborn fat into a more contoured sleek look, then non-invasive body sculpting may be the right option for you. But what is body sculpting really?
Body sculpting, also known as body contouring, previously only consisted of invasive procedures such as liposuction. But with an ever-increasingly well-informed consumer base, the demand for safe and less painful fat reduction and skin tightening treatments has led to the development of several non-invasive body sculpting devices.
Although the results achieved using these body contouring devices may be less dramatic than more traditional invasive techniques and not as immediate, they do carry far less risks and side effects that are more commonly associated with surgical procedures.
What Is Non-surgical Body Sculpting?
Non-surgical body sculpting is a non-invasive treatment that can help you achieve the body of your dreams without having to spend hours sweating it out in the gym and going under the knife.
Many areas of the body can be targeted with non-invasive body sculpting such as stubborn fat around the abdomen, flanks, thighs, bottom, upper arms and even under the chin. Essentially anywhere you’d like to see stubborn bulges erased.
Since the treatment can be performed quickly, with minimal discomfort and downtime, it is growing in popularity quite quickly. So much so that the international research company Global Data predicts non-invasive and minimally invasive fat-reduction procedures to be a $1.1 billion industry by 2022.
How Does Non-surgical Body Sculpting Work?
There are several different body sculpting treatments out there. In fact, there are more than a dozen non-invasive body procedures all using diverse technologies out on the market. All work in a similar way by breaking down fat cells that are eventually flushed out of the body over the course of a few months.
Our favourite, here at my cosmetic clinic here in Melbourne, is TruSculpt iD.
TruSculpt iD is an innovative fat reduction treatment that harnesses monopolar radio-frequency energy to melt fat that is sandwiched between the skin and muscle layers. During treatment, heat is evenly distributed to the entire fat layer being treated while simultaneously protecting your skin’s surface. A single 15-minute treatment, on average, destroys approximately 24% of your fat cells in the target area. This makes TruSculpt iD one of the most efficient non-invasive fat removal devices currently on market.
TruSculpt iD treatments can be tailored to the needs of each patient. Six individual handpieces allow for treatments that can be customised to the individual curves of each patient’s body. And, if desired, can treat multiple areas simultaneously. Patients can, therefore, treat their love handles and belly pooch treated all in one short, comfortable session with no downtime. This leads to treatment times that are shorter in duration and more comfortable than other, body sculpting devices like CoolSculpting or SculpSure.
What Are the Different Types of Body Sculpting Treatments?
Not all treatments are created equal and not all procedures are right for every issue. The cosmetic industry tends to lump cellulite treatment, skin tightening, fat reduction and muscle tightening all under body sculpting and or contouring. Which can be very confusing for patients.
Some of the most well know ones are CoolSculpting, VelaShape, EmSculpt and of course our favourite and in our opinion, by far the most effective and versatile is TruScuplt iD.
Who Is the Right Candidate for Body Sculpting?
Nonsurgical body sculpting procedures aren’t intended to be weight loss solutions. Ideal candidates are close to their desired weight and want to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. With most body contouring procedures, your body mass index shouldn’t be over 30.
Some treatments work for tough-to-reach areas better than others, while some are more effective for specific areas. Some are better suited for skin tightening while others are primarily for fat reduction only. The best way to decide which treatment is best for you is to have a consultation with a board-certified physician. One who has a high level of experience with body contouring and can advise you on which is best for you based on your desired results and lifestyle factors.
Are Non-invasive Body Sculpting Treatments Painful?
This will largely depend on your pain threshold and the treatment device used. Though you may experience a stinging or burning sensation for some of the older devices.
However, unlike its surgical counterparts, non-surgical body sculpting doesn’t require any anaesthesia, stitches and most can be done during your lunch break from work.
Because there’s so surgery there’s no risk of infection or swelling that comes with more traditional treatments such as liposuction. You don’t have to worry about the long, painful recovery time of surgery. There is no need for lengthy follow-up appointments, wound care or any need to stay home from work to recover.
How to Improve Your Body Sculpting Results and Are Results Permanent?
These treatments work with your body to produce naturally beautiful results. Meaning results post-treatment appear gradually over a few months as the body naturally emulates the destroyed fat cells.
If you’re concerned that you won’t get great results without surgery, you can set your mind at rest. Clinical studies and patient reviews have all concluded that these non-surgical treatments can give you measurable, striking results, although they do vary from patient to patient.
TruSculpt iD results are permanent. This device works by using the heat emitted by soundwave energy to melt the walls of unwanted fat cells. The human body stops being able to produce new fat cells in adulthood. Therefore, any fat cells destroyed after adulthood are gone permanently, never to be replaced.
This means that there will be forever fewer fat cells in the targeted region. However, a healthy diet and lifestyle are still recommended post-treatment.
