Trusculpt iD vs CoolSculpting – What’s The Difference Between the 2 Body Sculpting Treatments?

Posted by Dr Theva in Body.

For the majority of people losing a little fat would probably be seen as a good thing.

But for most people removing pockets of stubborn fat can be a frustrating experience. They’re following directions but all of their healthy eating, gym sessions, and doing cardio simply isn’t working.

Body Sculpting will help you maximize all the hard work you’re putting in!

Body Sculpting works by targeting specific areas of stubborn fat and can be performed in a few different ways, but the aim is to have a contoured and trimmed targeted area.

How Are Body Sculpting Treatments Performed?

There are 2 different approaches to body sculpting and contouring.

Invasive fat removal procedures such as liposuctions and tummy tucks. These body contouring methods are simple procedures that are performed by board-certified plastic surgeons that have very dramatic results.

However, the obvious downsides associated with these treatments is swelling, discomfort and even infections.

Non-invasive body sculpting treatments take a very different approach. Instead of rapid changes, non-invasive methods stimulate your body’s own natural functions to eliminate fat.

This usually involves using non-surgical methods such as laser lipolysis, ultrasound or radiofrequency. These different types of energies are directed towards fat deposits to disrupt cell function, causing irreversible fat cell damage. The body then proceeds to excrete the destroyed fat cells from the body through its own natural pathways, like the bladder.

Plastic surgery methods are definitely more invasive than non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

At Dr T Aesthetics here in Melbourne we don’t perform any invasive procedures. We offer non-invasive body contouring treatments where our patients can leave refreshed and can immediately get back to their normal activities. This is something that surgical procedures just simply cannot offer.

TruSculpt iD vs CoolSculpting

At first glance, TruSculpt iD and CoolSculpting may seem very similar. After all, they are both a type of non-surgical fat reduction treatments. Even though both offer similar results there are quite a few notable differences in how they get there.

What is TruSculpt iD?

TruSculpt iD uses radio frequency to deliver targeted heat to fat cells. It uses enough warmth to damage fat cells but not enough to harm your skin. The energy penetrates into the deeper layers of fat to deliver uniform energy to the treatment area, ensuring consistent energy and an average fat reduction of 24%.

The fat is heated until the cells are destroyed, and the body responds by clearing the “dead” fat cells out of your system.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is also a non-invasive body contouring technology that eliminates fat cells. CoolSculpting, or cryolipolysis as it’s otherwise known, freezes fat cells instead of heating. Freezing the fat cells causes them to effectively die and leads them to being excreted from the body.

CoolSculpting is by far the most well known body shaping treatment, however this is largely because it was approved in 2010, much earlier than any other competing devices.

But is it still the best?

Which Is Better TruSculpt iD or CoolSculpting

Treatment Time

During a TruSculpt iD treatment, multiple hands-free applicators are applied to the areas of fat to be targeted. The TruSculpt iD procedure takes ONLY 15 minutes, whether it is a large or small area.

For CoolSculpting, the applicator is one long rectangular box with one side that’s open. During treatment the provider positions the applicator onto the treatment area and the applicator suctions the fat into the rectangular box. This lets it apply the cooling across the fat.

The treatment times for CoolSculpting will vary based on the type and age of the model being used. Most treatment times are anywhere from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

Comfort Level

The TruSculpt iD has been compared to a hot stone massage by many patients.

The temperature of the skin on and around the treatment area will rise, but not to an uncomfortable level.

With CoolSculpting the feeling is slightly less comfortable. There is a pulling and tugging sensation throughout that is accompanied by pinching and cramping. It is by far the more painful treatment option.

Body Sculpting Side Effects

After a TruSculpt iD treatment, the area may be warm to the touch and could be slightly red for about an hour. Normal daily activities and exercise can be resumed almost immediately.

CoolSculpting side effects can include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity.

Customisability Options

During your weight loss journey, you sometimes don’t get to choose where you lose fat. The beauty of body contouring treatments is that it focuses on specific areas to contour.

Between TruSculpt iD and CoolSculpting, TruSculpt iD is by far more customisable.

Maybe one love handle is bigger than the other or you have a larger lump of fat in one part of your abdomen. With TruSculpt iD we can accommodate those adjustments due to the smaller hands-free applicators.

CoolSculpting is more rigid. There are 2 sizes of applicators, and that’s it. The provider isn’t able to focus on one part of the treatment area over another.
