Cosmetic injections in Australia have become hugely popular due to their non-surgical nature, excellent results, fast treatment time and minimal downtime. Both men and women enjoy the benefits of dermal fillers when it comes to fighting off signs of ageing. If this is your first-time getting fillers or you want to know more about them, we can help. Take a look below at the 5 questions to ask yourself before getting a dermal filler treatment.
Dermal fillers are an extremely versatile product and can reduce signs of ageing by; improving facial volume including the lips and the cheeks, filling fine lines and wrinkles and enhancing the features of the face. If the treatment is performed well, they create natural-looking results and enhance your facial features. Because they are temporary, they are a great way to start on your aesthetic journey.
1. Is My Cosmetic Physician/Injector Qualified and Experienced?
Much of your results will depend on your cosmetic injector rather than which product was used during your treatment. Is your practitioner fully qualified and do they have sufficient experience in the procedure or treatment they are performing? You are going to want to ensure your injector is a board-certified physician who specialises in aesthetic treatments to perform your injectables.
It’s essential to ask your doctor or practitioner about their training and experience during your first consultation with them. This should always be your first question prior to starting your dermal filler treatment. You should never feel embarrassed or awkward for asking.
2. What Type of Dermal Filler Will Be Used and Why?
Always ask what filler is being used for your treatment. There are hundreds of dermal fillers available – most are made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found naturally in the body. This type of filler integrates beautifully and comes with added safety benefits. Hyaluronic facial fillers are used to help maintain shape, even out depressions in the skin and provide hydration.
Some hyaluronic acid fillers are better than others for particular treatments. Always choose a practitioner who uses the safest filler brands, those which are TGA approved, and who can explain which results you should be expecting from the particular product used.
Each Dermal Filler product works in a slightly different way. This is where expertise really comes into play. I have almost a decade of experience with dermal fillers, so I understand the subtle ins and outs of each variation. This allows me to customise an injectable filler procedure to your unique anatomy and needs. No two patients are the same. This is critical for delivering a truly “wow” result and avoiding complications or undesirable results.
In general, the difference between the various filler options comes down to the size or weight of the filler molecules themselves.
There are 4 basic fillers for rejuvenating the face. These include:
- Very soft, thin gel fillers for fine lines & wrinkles
- Soft cohesive, slightly denser gel fillers for lips & under the eyes
- Slightly firm gel fillers for nasolabial folds & scars
- Firmer, thicker gel fillers for the cheeks & jawline
An experienced cosmetic injector should be able to effectively evaluate the area/s of concern and understand what results can be reached. Then confidently choose the right product, quantity, technique and correctly position the dermal filler for the best result.
3. What Are the Goals of My Cosmetic Physician?
It’s important to have realistic expectations prior to undergoing a dermal filler procedure. Ask yourself if you’re aiming to completely alter your appearance or just enhance your looks. Your desired results and the goal of your cosmetic injector should match otherwise you may be unhappy with the final outcome.
My goal is to make you look like a more refreshed, subtly rejuvenated version of yourself. Everyone will notice your refreshed and beautiful look, but no one will know what you did.
It takes a combination of skill and artistry to deliver results that are subtle yet effective. It also takes a cosmetic injector who is honest with you about whether your anatomy and needs are a good match for dermal fillers on their own, or if it will need to be combined with another procedure such as:
I pride myself on always being honest with my patients because I want you to be comfortable in the choice that we’ve made for your treatment plan and know that I will be with you all the way until you are satisfied with your results.
4. What Level of Aftercare Will Be Provided?
Whilst injectables are minimally invasive, good aftercare is crucial to minimise complications and to achieve the best outcome.
I routinely follow my client’s up 24-72 hours post-treatment to check in and make sure there are no serious issues. And, I also provide you with my personal mobile number, so you are able to call me anytime if you have any concerns. I also schedule an in-clinic appointment with you 2 weeks post-treatment once the swelling has subsided to ensure you are satisfied with the results.
5. Can I Have the Dermal Filler Removed if I’m Not Happy With the Results?
Absolutely yes. Hyaluronidase is an injectable liquid that dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers into molecules normally found in the skin, which are then naturally eliminated by the body.
Any irregularity can be smoothed out, and the material dissolved in the rare case of significant side effects. Do not allow anyone to treat you with fillers unless they always have Hyaluronidase in the clinic.
This is where pre-consultation appointments are so important. As some people are allergic to hyaluronidase. So, if your injector makes an error hyaluronidase won’t be able to be used.
Always Ensure to Book a Consultation Prior to Your Treatment
Did you know that it is an Australian regulation that your first injectables and fillers consultation at any clinic should be with a doctor?
You may ultimately be having your treatment/s with a fully qualified nurse or practitioner but initially, you should be seeing a doctor in order for them to prescribe your products.
Yep, anti-wrinkle injections and fillers are classified as prescription medicines! Keep in mind that nowadays many clinics will Skype or teleconference with the doctor if there isn’t one on site.
I offer FREE comprehensive non-obligations for all of my patients prior to treatment. (Normally valued at $250)
During your free, no-obligation comprehensive consultation, I get to know you and discuss your desired outcomes, your ultimate experience, and your concerns, so we get it right the first time. We discuss timelines, expectations, best treatments, and payment plans.
Most importantly, I will explain why they are the best options and go over the results you can expect to allow you to feel comfortable and confident you are making the right decision.
